Thor's Helmet Nebula

from $80.00

Thor’s Helmet is an ethereally beautiful emission nebula that I’ve always wanted to image. Glowing oxygen and hydrogen gases are swept along and energized by the Wolf-Rayet star at its center. This is about 16 hours of imaging time over several nights. Wikipedia has a good writeup:

“The central star is the Wolf-Rayet star WR7, an extremely hot star thought to be in a brief pre-supernova stage of evolution. It is similar in nature to the Bubble Nebula, but interactions with a nearby large molecular cloud are thought to have contributed to the more complex shape and curved bow-shock structure of Thor's Helmet.”
